Joining Knowle Tennis Club in in 1950, Norman was to become an outstanding club player and with his partner Nellie Mason was the first recipient of the Weekes Trophy for mixed doubles. In 2000 the constitution was changed to confer automatic Life Membership after 50 years in the Club. Norman Bishop was the first recipient.
